SPACE 07 ❘ THE CHAE : Sorereu
Sorereu.
/
A word that captures gentle moments:
the soft, slow touch of a passing breeze,
the quiet drift into sleep,
the effortless unraveling of tangled things,
the delicate spilling of water, powder, or grains.
/
like the sway of foxtail grass in a soft wind, like a word that rolls smoothly in the mouth and disappears without an edge.
/
For these reasons,
we named it Sorereu.

/
It feels like the warmth brushing your eyelids
when you face the sun with your eyes closed,

So that you may spend your days
in the quiet, flowing shape of Sorereu,
/
we have prepared six rituals to enjoy the seasons and the passage of time.

THE CHAE X Samuso Hyoja
/
At Samuso Hyoja, architecture is understood
as the empty space between walls.
/
It is about how two walls face each other, how their heights differ,
and how the texture of their surfaces changes—
the subtle transformations that settle into a space.
/
Architecture that is not felt as a form, but as air.
Not through addition, but through subtraction.
/
In this spirit, the hanok at Sorereu has been cleared and pared back.
/
And in the spaces left behind, small gestures have been gently scattered: everyday objects placed here and there—

/
outdoor slippers for Sorereu, soybean oil-finished hanji flooring,
and bath salts to release the tension from your body—
the rituals sown throughout by THE CHAE & Samuso Hyoja
/
These are not programs or experiences to be consumed.
They are quiet invitations, like hidden notes tucked away.
/
Small, delicate, and loosely bundled rituals—
ordinary, yet anchoring us gently to our existence.
/
It is a space that has been honed carefully, starting from what cannot be seen, over more than a year of steady devotion.
We hope that your time at Sorereu will remain with you as a quiet, lasting memory.

Sorereu,
A Home for Savoring the Seasons and Time Itself.
This is your home.
We’ve aligned the textures where walls, floors, and corners meet, placing carefully chosen furniture, objects, and tools to harmonize with each space.
In the bedroom and the tearoom, we’ve used traditional Korean paper coated with soybean oil. For the bathroom, open-air bath, and dining area, we’ve laid natural stone flooring. Even among the stone floors, the texture varies — some are meant to be felt barefoot, while others are suited for light outdoor slippers.
Discover the subtle delight that comes from unfamiliar sensations.
When you open the front gate, a small garden welcomes you. Outdoor slippers are placed on the right for use in the yard. The garden wall was designed at a height that doesn’t block the roof of the hanok across the way. From the yard, the view opens all the way out toward Inwangsan.
A spacious table and cooking area are set up in the annex overlooking the zen water garden. Enjoy your mealtime with the carefully selected tableware we’ve prepared.
We’ve used a traditional hanji floor finished with soybean oil. Its texture under bare feet feels softer and more delicate than an ordinary floor.
It’s a peaceful spot where you can sit and look out at the zen water garden.
Enjoy the carefully selected coffee beans, aromas, and teas.
Relax in the warm stone-finished tub and let the day’s fatigue melt away.
The water garden in the center of the yard holds water in spring and summer, and in fall and winter a fireplace is set up in its place.
The gentle light and movement of water or fire brings a quiet sense of ease to both your eyes and your mind.
